Understand the role of the doula
What is a doula? A doula is a professional companion trained to provide emotional, physical and informational support to future parents. It intervenes before, during and after childbirth, without ever replacing the medical role of the doctor or midwife.
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife? The midwife is a health professional authorized to ensure medical monitoring of pregnancy and to perform childbirth. The doula does not perform any medical procedures. Its role is to offer continuous presence, emotional support, natural pain management techniques and objective information to help parents experience a peaceful birth.
Does a doula replace the doctor or midwife? No, the doula completes the medical team without replacing it. She works in collaboration with health professionals present at the birth to offer human and ongoing support that hospital staff do not always have the time to provide.
Should you hire a doula even if you give birth in hospital? Absolutely. The majority of families supported by Ysé Naissance give birth in a hospital environment. The doula can accompany you regardless of the place of birth: hospital, birth center or home.
Our services and their operation
What services does Ysé Naissance offer? Ysé Naissance offers four types of services:
Private prenatal classes with presence at childbirth
Workshops group birth preparation
Postnatal support at home
Happy Push online program! (videos at your own pace)
At what time of pregnancy should prenatal classes begin? We recommend starting between the 20th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy. This gives you time to assimilate the learning while remaining close to your due date. However, it is never too late, we can adapt the content according to your progress.
Can my partner participate in prenatal classes? Yes, and it is even strongly encouraged! Partner participation is included in all our services. Group workshops are specially designed to be followed as a couple in order to learn support techniques together during work.
How many sessions are included in private support? The private support package includes prenatal meetings, continuous presence during labor and delivery, as well as a postnatal visit. The exact number of prenatal sessions is tailored to your needs during the free outreach meeting.
What is the Happy Push program! online? Happy Push! is a 100% online birth preparation course, composed of short practical videos with exercises. It can be tracked at your own pace, from anywhere, making it ideal if you're far from Montreal or your schedule is busy.
Do you offer support for high-risk pregnancies? Yes. Our team is trained to support high-risk pregnancies, medical deliveries, traumatic situations as well as births that do not go as planned. We adapt to each situation.
Insurance and prices
Are doula services reimbursed by insurance? Yes. Ysé Naissance's services are covered by most private insurance through perinatal naturopathy receipts. Émilie Péru is a certified member of the ANPQ (Association of Professional Naturopaths of Quebec), which allows the issuance of receipts recognized by insurers.
Does RAMQ cover doula services? No, the Régie de l’assurance santé du Québec (RAMQ) does not cover doula services. Check your group or individual insurance contract to find out your naturopathy coverage.
How do I know if my insurance covers your services? Check your insurance contract to see if naturopathy is covered. The vast majority of group insurance in Quebec (Desjardins, Sun Life, Great-West, etc.) includes this type of coverage. If in doubt, contact us — we can help you check.
How much do Ysé Naissance services cost? Prices vary depending on the type of service chosen. We invite you to schedule a free outreach meeting to discuss your needs and present our packages to you in detail.
Service area and logistics
Do you travel to your home? Yes. We offer prenatal home classes as well as postnatal home visits throughout the island of Montreal and the surrounding area.
